Good Skin Care for Dry Skin Will Give You a Youthful Appearance

from:

Many people have dry skin and aren't even aware of it. They are so used to their skin the way it is, that they think it's normal. Very few people actually have normal skin. Most of the population has dry skin, oily skin or a combination type skin. To understand how to help dry skin, it's helpful if we understand how we get it, what causes it and what skin care for dry skin is.

When we want food such as leftovers or bakery to stay soft, moist and fresh, we cover it with a layer of plastic wrap. Our outer layer of skin works in much the same way as that layer of plastic wrap. Our outer layer of skin retains the moisture and natural oils that are in our body. This is what keeps our skin and body soft. However, many situations in our daily lives affect this outer layer of skin. Overexposure to the sun is probably the worst culprit for our skin. When we get a sunburn from being in the sun too long, the outer layer of skin peels off. When this layer peels off, our moisture and natural oils are no longer trapped inside so our skin begins to get dry. When this happens repeatedly, our skin never has the chance to rejuvenate.

Wintertime is another time of year when our skin gets very dry. The reason for this is that the air is dry without the amount of humidity we are used to getting. The result is the moisture and oils in our skin drying up requiring skin care. Dry skin, especially during these specific times, will require extra work and help. Because the weather is already damaging our skin, we need extra skin care. Dry skin can be helped with moisturizers, lotions or creams designed for dry skin. There are many types of skin care for dry skin available on the market today. Dozens of companies are competing for your business by all claiming to make the magic cure for dry skin. In most cases, there is no cure for dry skin.

Although there may be no cure for dry skin, there are ways we can lessen the dryness or not make it worse. Many people use some of the more popular lotions such as Eucerin, Vaseline, Aveeno, Neutrogena, Olay, Ponds, etc. but continue to do the things that are drying out their skin. Some of the best skin care for dry skin is avoiding the things that make them dry such as too much sun, being in the cold, using hot water in long showers, using scented soaps and lotions. A combination of smart care for your skin along with good skin care products will give you the youthful skin we all want to have.
